Should I Use An Interlocking Golf Grip?

I am wondering about my golf grip. I am a 19 handicap and I would like to know which golf grip I should use. I have played for a long time and have always used an interlocking golf grip. Is this grip ok to hold the golf club?

Many successful players have used the interlocking golf grip including Jack Nicklaus! First your grip must be comfortable to you. I am going to assume that is the case because you have used it for a long time. Read the article Clap For Your Golf Grip to learn more about how to hold a golf club.

Do You Push Or Pull The Club Shaft?

My boss and I were talking golf the other day. We were discussing whether you should pull or push the club on the downswing. Which full swing theory is correct?

You definitely should PULL the golf club on the downswing. Here is the analogy: Take a little red wagon. Do you have more control if you push the handle in front of you or pull the handle behind you? Can you go faster if you push the handle in front of you or pull the handle behind you? Of course the answer is that you have more control and can go faster if you are pulling the wagon behind you. As you pull the golf club on the downswing, you will have greater control and will be able to create more speed in your full swing.

Jim McLean - Eight Step Swing

I have been reading books from Jim McLean. What is your take on his eight step swing theory?

I like what Jim McLean has to say. One reason is that teaches you to go in to zones as opposed to VERY specific positions. Not all of us are built the same way thus, it gives everyone the freedom to use their swing and not a "canned" golf swing. As I have watched him many times on TV as well as listening to different presentations that he has given, he seems to make it easy to understand.

How Should I Hold The Club?

I have just started playing golf and am 12 years old. I am pretty small for my age. How should I hold the club? Should I use the ten finger grip until I get bigger?

Yes you can!!! There is nothing wrong with the ten finger grip which is also known as the base ball grip. There still are some "grip laws" that you need to follow with any grip that you use. Read the article Clap For Your Golf Grip to make sure that you are properly using the ten finger grip. It is GREAT that you are playing golf now. Make sure you are spending time on your short game and your putting and you will enjoy the game for a long time. Keep asking questions here and Wireless Golf Coach will help you however we can!!!

How Do I Clean My Golf Club Grips?

As I am sitting in the snow, I am wanting to give my clubs a good cleaning. How do you suggest that I clean my grips?

Assuming you have a rubber, half cord or full cord grip, you can simply use soap and water. I usually use dishwashing soap, a wash cloth and a really good scrub.

Golf Club Fitting - Grip

I am looking at getting a new set of irons this spring. My question is about the grip. How do I know if the grip properly fits me?

First, I would suggest that you read the articles Club Fitting 101 and Golf Club Fitting Basics. Once you have done your research on who should be club fitting you in your area, this person can give you the best direction as they will see your ball flight and more importantly your hands! I will say that the general rule of thumb this that your last three fingers of your left hand (for a right-handed golfer) should just be touching your palm. With this being said, your fingers should not be digging into your palm but just touching.

Golf Grip

I have joined the ladies group at my club. However, just begining to play golf. I am confused about the grip. At the last clininc, the teacher talked about different grips and got me confused. I am most comfortable with having all my fingers on the club because I feel that I can control it better. Can you give me some help?

I will tell you that that the grip you are using is known as a ten-finger grip or a baseball grip. The good news is that if that is what you are comfortable with that should be the grip for you! Many ladies do not feel like they have enough strength to control the club with the Inter-locking grip or Over-lapping grip. You palms should still face each other as well as follow other principles of the grip, which you can find in the article Clap For Your Golf Grip found at Wireless Golf Coach. If you ever have any questions, please, email us through our blog, Wireless Golf Coach - A Golf Question And Answer.

Online Golf Lesson - Golf Grip

I have a quesiton about where I should put my left hand on the golf club. Everyone talks about how many knuckles they see. When I look down, I see three knuckles. My challenge is with this grip, my ball still goes to the right! What can I do to change where my ball is going?

I am going to assume that you are right-handed and speak accordingly. You need to move your ball position. Take your address with your feet together and the ball inline with the center of your feet. Small step forward with your left foot and a big step with your right foot. The ball will seem that it is way out in front of you with where you have been playing the ball. Make some practice swings and then hit a few balls. Do not be surprised if the ball starts moving left. If this happens either move the ball closer to center or weaken your grip. How Do I Properly Hold The Golf Club?

I have been told that I have a weak grip. What does that mean and what should it be?

Good question. A weak grip simply means that your left and/or right hand is turned to far to the left. For example, the "V" that is created between your thumb and forefinger should point to your right shoulder for a right-handed golfer. If either "V" is pointing to the left of your shoulder it would be considered weak. Read the article Clap For Your Golf Grip to improve your grip.
