Should I Use An Interlocking Golf Grip?

I am wondering about my golf grip. I am a 19 handicap and I would like to know which golf grip I should use. I have played for a long time and have always used an interlocking golf grip. Is this grip ok to hold the golf club?

Many successful players have used the interlocking golf grip including Jack Nicklaus! First your grip must be comfortable to you. I am going to assume that is the case because you have used it for a long time. Read the article Clap For Your Golf Grip to learn more about how to hold a golf club.

Gio Valiante - Fearless Golf - Conquering The Mental Game

In watching the golf channel, I am interested in learning more about Gio Valiante teachings. Does he have a book out that is available for purchase?

Gio Valiante does have a book out called Fearless Golf - Conquering The Mental Game. Dr. Gio Valiante's book is in hardback. Gio Valante's background includes being a pioneering sports psychologist, studing the sources of an athlete's fear, investigating the physiological impact of fear on performance and developing a groundbreaking program for conquering it. In his book Fearless Golf, Valiante explains how fear plays havoc with physical motion and presents specific ways that you can break free of its grasp and shoot your lowest scores. Realizing the need to replace a fixation-on-results with a commitment to mastery of oneself and one's mind, your approach will not only help you reach your true potential, in addition, it will make playing every round fun again.

Jim McLean - Eight Step Swing

I have been reading books from Jim McLean. What is your take on his eight step swing theory?

I like what Jim McLean has to say. One reason is that teaches you to go in to zones as opposed to VERY specific positions. Not all of us are built the same way thus, it gives everyone the freedom to use their swing and not a "canned" golf swing. As I have watched him many times on TV as well as listening to different presentations that he has given, he seems to make it easy to understand.

Golf Instruction Book For A Specific Build

I am a bigger guy. I am not built like the tour pros and that it seems like who all of the books are written for. Do you have any suggestions for a golf book that would work for me?

Thanks for your question. I am sur eyou are not the only one who feels this way. Before I give you my suggestion I would like to say this first. No mattter your size big or small, we all have the same bone structure underneath. Many times the reason a student can not do what is asked is due to their flexibility. In his book Your Golf Swing, Jim Suttie discusses the golf swing based on four distinct body types. In addition, you can read the free online golf instruction articles at Wireless Golf Coach and keep an eye on this blog!
