What should I consider when looking for new set golf equipment?
VGS Golf has written an article to answer your question. Here is a bit of it and you can find the rest of the article on the Website at VGS Golf.
How do I find a qualified club fitter? I would retort with how do you find other professionals like doctors, dentists, etc.? Ask other fellow golfers, your friends and co-workers about experiences they had had good or bad. Also contact local golf shops and ask to speak to a qualified fitter. Ask him or her how the process of the club fitting will go and make sure you are comfortable with the professional. Once you have found your golf club fitter, it is important that you armed with the proper questions to ask your fitter. In addition, remember the fitter is there to help you so do not be afraid to ask any question you might have. The proper questions to ask prior to or during your fitting are as follows:
· Is the professional certified by a major manufacturer to fit their clubs?
· How experienced is the PGA Professional?
· Will I be fit outdoors to see the entire ball flight?
· Does the PGA Professional have a fitting cart or multiple fitting carts with what you are looking for (Mens, Ladies, steel, graphite, right-handed, left-handed clubs) available?
· What will the session cost?
· If I purchase the clubs from you, will the cost of the club fitting be put towards the purchase?
· Will a launch monitor be used during the session?
· How the professional came to the conclusion of your specs? Make sure you understand how the conclusion is achieved and make sure you understand the logic.

Golf Mental Game - How To Relax
Do you have suggestions for how to relax on the golf course? I am starting to play in tournaments and I get to be very nerous and do not play to my potential. any advice would help!
We will not just give you any advice! Use these techniquies and you will be able to relax on the golf course and lower your scores!!! Here is a portion from our article "Golf Mental Game - How to relax" posted at VGS Golf.
Monitor your walking pace - again, this is very effective and can be done at anytime. Most of us do not care about going to the mall however, you might earn some bonus points with the spouse and you would be able to monitor what is a slow, comfortable or fast pace for you. Try walking at different paces during the day and monitor how your body feels at the different rates.
Monitor your breathing - this is very effective and can be done at anytime. We all have started breathing faster (whether we knew it or not) on the first tee, on the ninth green before a big putt or on eighteen to win a match. It is useful to catch yourself at home while you are relaxed and monitor your breathing in such a state so you have a baseline.
Ensure humor and fun are part of your round - this is sometimes harder to do than others. Even if sometimes you have to laugh to yourself, I have always found it possible to do though. At the club level, if you are not having fun in team events, then you need to find a new partner. I have found that most people want to enjoy themselves even at the "higher" levels of the game.
Focus on your pre-shot routine - once you have a routine ingrained then this is a good way to click into auto-pilot. It is critical that your routine is repetitive and does not waver. A change could cause anxiety and mis-trust in your golf swing.
Whistling or singing - Fuzzy Zoeller is infamous for his whistling while he is on the golf course. I tend to do this myself on the course from time to time to blow some steam. I have tried not to sing as it may result in a two stroke penalty if anyone else heard me sing! It may work for you though.
Picture a calm place - sounds corny to some but it works. My in-laws live out in the country in Kentucky. While we are there, I walk everyday and there is a big barn that sits on tops of a hill in the distance. These walks are very relaxing. The Kentucky quarter happens to have a picture on the back of the coin that reminds me of that barn I look at on my walk. When I mark my ball with it, I am able to remember my relaxing walks and I can feel my body relax. This place might be the beach for you, your back yard or a sunset. The point is it does not really matter as long as it relaxes you.

Help Me Hit Solid Pitch Shots
Why do my pitch shots not get up into the air and what can I do about it?
The reason your pitch shots or any golf shot does not get into the air is simply that the very bottom of your club is making contact with the ball and not the club face (where the grooves are)
Here is a simple golf drill:
Place a ball on a tee and make a swing. If the tee does not move, you either completely whiffed of hit the golf ball with the bottom of the club. The ball flight should have been flat.
Try it again with out the tension in your shoulders and allow the club head to work under the golf ball. Your goal should be to get the fourth groove under the equator of the golf ball. when this happens your tee should come out of the ground or at least be pushed towards your target. In addition, your ball flight will be much higher.

How Do I Determine How Good My Lie Is?
When I miss a green, how do I determine how good my lie is and what type of golf shot to play?
Good question that not many people pay attention to. The rule of thumb is to get the ball rolling on the green as soon as possible. With this being said the more grass that is behind your ball, the more you should try to chip it, if distance allows that. If not then you must pitch the golf ball. Even when pitching the golf ball, you must determine how much grass is behind your golf ball. the more that is there, then you need to play it towards the middle of your stance and not to the front of your stance. The ball will come out lower and with less spin. You will need to factor this into your shot to get it close to the hole.

Where Is The Weight On My Left Foot At Impact?
I have a question about the impact position. I am a low handicapper and am struggling with whether my weight should be on the inside or outside of my left foot at impact. Which is it?
As you go through impact, you should feel the weight under the shoe strings of your left foot. Your weight may roll towards the outside of your left foot to take some pressure off of your knee. Learn more about the correct impact position by reading golf articles on the full swing at VGS Golf.

What Does Sliding During My Golf Swing Mean?
Can you tell me what "sliding during my golf swing" means?
This is a good question and one many people do not understand. A Slide in your golf swing would be defined this way: Any extra lateral movement of the lower body towards the intended target during your downswing. There are training aids that can help you with this such as The Transfer Station by Izzo Golf. Read more articles on the how not to slide during your golf swing or how not to sway in your golf swing at VGS Golf.

Why Use A Core Balance Exercise Ball?
To improve my golf game, I have started a golf fitness program at home. As I am trying to put together the exercise equipment that I will need, why do I need a core balance exercise ball?
Congrats on your decision to improve your golf game but more importantly to improve your health! Most core balance exercise balls will come with fitness exercises that you can do on the swiss ball. You can go to TPI.com and find many golf specific exercises to use on an exercise ball.
The reason a core exercise balance ball will help you in your fitness program is that as you do these exercises, you will need to have your core muscles contracted to keep your balance as you do the exercises.
The Wireless Golf Coach at VGS offers golf products under the categories of Golf Art, Golf Books, Golf Equipment, Golf Fitness Equipment, Golf Full Swing Training Aids, Golf Gifts, Golf Greeting Cards, Golf Instruction CD, Golf Instruction DVD, Golf Launch Monitor, Golf Picture Frames, Golf Training Aids, Ladies Golf, Practice Net, Putting Golf Training Aids, Tee Gift, Wine and Golf, Golf Course Supplies as well as Restaurant Supply.

Should I Use An Interlocking Golf Grip?
I am wondering about my golf grip. I am a 19 handicap and I would like to know which golf grip I should use. I have played for a long time and have always used an interlocking golf grip. Is this grip ok to hold the golf club?
Many successful players have used the interlocking golf grip including Jack Nicklaus! First your grip must be comfortable to you. I am going to assume that is the case because you have used it for a long time. Read the article Clap For Your Golf Grip to learn more about how to hold a golf club.

How Do I Get The Ball Closer On My First Putt?
I am learning the game and have just started to take golf lessons. I have not taken a putting lesson yet and I am having trouble getting my first putt close to the hole. Is there an easy way to get better at this?
First, we are very glad that you have Linked Up 2 Golf and have begun to play this great game. Second, do not hesitate to take a putting lesson. It will be money well spent, as more than half of your strokes will come from putting and the short game. Third, use the free golf instruction here as well as at Wireless Golf Coach.
Finally to fully answer your question, go to the practice putting green with three to five golf balls and your putter for an putting drill. At first, you will not need your putter but keep it close. Position yourself about twenty feet away from a hole and try to make the would be putt as flat as possible. What do i mean would be putt? We are first going to roll (not pitch) on the ground one ball towards the hole. Notice how far your arm moves. Your arm should not "wind up" behind you. To roll the ball the proper distance, your arm will move much shorter back than it will move on the way through. Note it is also important to hold your arm in its "finish position" until the golf ball stops rolling. Once comfortable with this simply pick up your putter and turn sideways to address you putt and "underhand the putter" just as you did to roll the ball to the hole.
You can also do this to the edge of the green if a hole is not available. You will see one of the tour players on a putting green looking like they are trying to underhand a ball to a hole. They are attempting to get the feel for the speed of the putt just as this putting drill allows you to do.

How Do I Stop Slicing?
How do I stop slicing the golf ball? I do it basically every single swing. I has gotten really frustrating. My friend who is a good player tells me that I have a reverse C on the end of my swing. Are there any training aids that would help me stop slicing the golf ball?
If you are in fact ending with a reverse C position, then you are not properly shifting your weight. There is a golf swing training aid that could help you with your full swing and it will also better your putting as well. The Shift Station By Izzo shows you how to properly transfer your weight on your backswing and where your weight needs to be on the forward swing and finish!

Solid Iron Shots
I am having trouble hitting solid iron shots. What can I do to correct this?
Well, even with not much information, this drill will help you hit solid iron shots. Take a chalk can and draw a line on the ground or place two golf tees about one foot apart. Make golf swings with the line as where your golf ball would sit. Monitor where you are beginning your divots. Your divots should be starting on the line. Once you are consistently beginning each divot on the line, you will be hitting solid iron shots and lowering your golf scores.
The Wireless Golf Coach at VGS offers golf products under the categories of Golf Art, Golf Books, Golf Equipment, Golf Fitness Equipment, Golf Full Swing Training Aids, Golf Gifts, Golf Greeting Cards, Golf Instruction CD, Golf Instruction DVD, Golf Launch Monitor, Golf Picture Frames, Golf Training Aids, Ladies Golf, Practice Net, Putting Golf Training Aids, Tee Gift, Wine and Golf, Golf Course Supplies as well as Restaurant Supply.
We have customers throughout the US such as Houston Auroa IL, Tempe AZ, Providence RI, Little Rock AK and Irving TX. Also ask questions and receive free golf advice on the golf swing or golf products from a PGA Professional at

Do You Push Or Pull The Club Shaft?
My boss and I were talking golf the other day. We were discussing whether you should pull or push the club on the downswing. Which full swing theory is correct?
You definitely should PULL the golf club on the downswing. Here is the analogy: Take a little red wagon. Do you have more control if you push the handle in front of you or pull the handle behind you? Can you go faster if you push the handle in front of you or pull the handle behind you? Of course the answer is that you have more control and can go faster if you are pulling the wagon behind you. As you pull the golf club on the downswing, you will have greater control and will be able to create more speed in your full swing.

You definitely should PULL the golf club on the downswing. Here is the analogy: Take a little red wagon. Do you have more control if you push the handle in front of you or pull the handle behind you? Reverse Weight Shift or Reverse Pivot
I am struggling with a reverse weight shift. How can I fix this problem? I have not only started hitting the ball everywhere but I have also lost distance.
First you must understand that the reverse weight shift, is also known as a reverse pivot. On the back-swing your weight is going towards the target and on the forward swing your weight is going away from the target. This makes it difficult to hit your golf shot with any power or control.
The Fix: Use one of your golf clubs as a full swing golf training aid. Place the club in the middle of your feet and take your grip and stance. As you take your backswing, make sure your weight goes behind the club on the ground. Now, swing the club through to your finish. In your finish, your body should now be on the target side of the club on the ground.

Find The Yardages For How Far You Hit Each Club In Your Bag
I am a middle handicapper and I have a question. I recently heard a term that I had not heard before. I friend of mine was excited because he was going to be put on a launch monitor and would be "gapping his irons." What is he going to be doing?
The term "gapping your irons" is another way to say find the yardages on how far you hit each club in your bag. You can do this by using a golf ball launch monitor or the old fashioned way, by walking them off.

Gio Valiante - Fearless Golf - Conquering The Mental Game
In watching the golf channel, I am interested in learning more about Gio Valiante teachings. Does he have a book out that is available for purchase?
Gio Valiante does have a book out called Fearless Golf - Conquering The Mental Game. Dr. Gio Valiante's book is in hardback. Gio Valante's background includes being a pioneering sports psychologist, studing the sources of an athlete's fear, investigating the physiological impact of fear on performance and developing a groundbreaking program for conquering it. In his book Fearless Golf, Valiante explains how fear plays havoc with physical motion and presents specific ways that you can break free of its grasp and shoot your lowest scores. Realizing the need to replace a fixation-on-results with a commitment to mastery of oneself and one's mind, your approach will not only help you reach your true potential, in addition, it will make playing every round fun again.

How To Hit Better Iron Shots
I have a hard time hitting my irons. I would like to hit better iron shots that consistently go the same distance. When I do not hit my irons well, I tend to hit them low and they fly farther than usual. What is going on so I can hit more greens?
When this happens you are tensing the muscles in your shoulders, elbows and wrists shortening the original lever (your arm). In turn, you make contact more of the center of the golf ball and more towards the bottom of the iron. Put a tee in the ground and make some practice swings attempting to hit the tee towards your target. If you do not hit the tee, you still have to much tension. Make swings until you can consistently make contact with the tee and then lower it until you can do this with the tee flush to the ground.

Golf Swing Launch Monitors
With all of the new golf technology, is there an affordable golf swing launch monitor that I can use while I practice?
The Zelocity PureContact is a patented technology golf ball flight monitor (made in the USA) that uses a integrated Doppler-radar transceiver to gather the data. The unit works with right-handed and left-handed golfers with no adjustments needed to change sides. You can use any club with the unit while indoors or outdoors. The individual shot data (ball velocity, carry or total distance) is displayed through the onboard unit display for golf shots carrying 30 yards up to 420 yards. The session average ball velocity and average distance can also be displayed on the unit. In addition, the results can be dispalyed in yards or meters. The Zelocity PureContact has a 100 shot memory that will clear each time the unit is powered off.

Have The Proper Putting Grip
I have a problem with starting putts to the left of my target line from all distances. It has been very frustrating as my buddies willnot even give me any putts as I can do this from literally anywhere. I have spent time and am positive that I am aligned properly which just brings more frustration. What is going on?
It is time to check your to make sure that you have the proper putting grip. With the info you have given me, your putter shaft is not upright enough because of the grip you are taking. Make sure the life line of your left hand as well as your right hand are on both sides of the putter. This should put both thumbs on top of the putter grip and make the putter shaft more upright than you previously had it. This will help insure the putter face is square as well.
Another thing I would check is to make sure that your putter grip is placed square on the putter. Sometimes, during installation, a putter grip can be installed opened or closed. You would assume that it is on the putter square but, I would double check.
Post again and let us know how it goes!!!

Hand Position At Impact
I have heard that your grip should be ahead of the ball at impact. Why should this happen and is this true?
Good question. You hands should be ahead of the golf ball as you go through the impact position properly use the design of the golf club. Most players get in trouble because they are not pulling the club through impact. Most players start to push the club and allow the clubhead to go past the grip just prior to impact. This is known as "casting" the golf club. To get your good impact postion, you can use your golf bag or even the golf cart you are riding in! Place your clubhead on the cart tire. Slowly take your backswing and transition through to the impact position. As the clubhead meets the tire, relax your shoulders and feel your self pulling the golf club into the tire. Not Pushing. You will be able to feel the difference. This is the feeling that you want through impact. The good news is that you can do this in-between shots on the golf course if needed.

Chipping Help!
Recently I have had trouble with my chipping. I hit most of my chip shots low and the ball will go over the green. It is so bad that I can feel that I am hitting the ball on the bottom of the club face. What can I do?
To improve your chip shot, make sure that you are keeping you shoulders, forearms and the back of your neck relaxed throughout the entire stroke. In addition, make sure you are swinging down at the ball. Set up with 70% (adjust as needed) of your weight on your left foot for a right-handed golfer and place your hands equal to your left hip. By now taking your putting stroke from this position, this will make the shaft come into the ball on a steeper path. Read the article Boot Camp For Chip Shots to make your Short Game better!
